Veiled Tide is the second book in the Sefwarian Nyss YA Fantasy Series. Set amongst a background of Cornish smuggling and wrecking, in Cornwall in 1785, it details the backstory of Merryn’s former life as Kerenza, a Sefwarian Nyss Cempalli soldier. Through her memories, we begin to discover her link to Porthrosen, and the magical realm of Sefwarian Nyss. But as the mystery of her Nyss past slowly starts to unravel, shocking truths are unearthed, and heartache waits around every corner. And as the secrets continue to unveil, Kerenza suspects that she has merely scratched the surface of her story, and that this is only the start of her journey…

"I must begin by saying how much I enjoyed the first book of the set. It´s a thoroughly exciting adventure with a strong protagonist to root for. So, is the second book as good? I would say, it is. Possibly even better. There´s still the strong protagonist, Kerenza - Merryn in her former life – and, like the first novel, the plot is packed full of mystery, suspense, a good dollop of romance and, towards the end, the evil witch, Sephone.

Whilst reading this YA novel, I was particularly impressed by the author´s knowledge of her readership. I find many adult writers when writing books for teenager simply don´t get it right. I think, possibly, they have forgotten what it´s like to be a hormone-driven 14 year old! But Erica-Jane Battisson seems to have remembered perfectly well! She understands YA readers, particularly girls, want to be immersed in the protagonist’s internalised feelings. Look at Twilight, for example. It´s slow-going, Bella spending chapter after chapter analysing her thoughts and feelings – and teenagers LOVED IT! Now, this novel is considerably better written – and has much better pacing – but the author still keeps to her protagonist, what she´s going through, and how it impacts on her.

So, all in all, a FAB read for teenagers, and, dare I say it in this PC world we live in, teenage girls. They´ll love Kerenza, and they´ll love following her on her journey." The Wishing Shelf
